Bluffton's professionally trained mold detection dog - and the family behind him.

Cowboy is a professionally trained mold detection dog, uniquely equipped to identify hidden issues in a home before they become widespread problems.
His training focuses specifically on detecting microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs)—the distinct off-gassing produced by actively growing mold. While human noses might only catch the scent when a situation is severe, Cowboy can pinpoint the source early.
This capability comes down to biology. A dog possesses roughly 220 million scent receptors compared to a human's five million. It is the exact same anatomical advantage that allows working dogs to locate missing persons, detect explosives, or identify medical conditions.
Cowboy completed a rigorous professional mold detection training program before beginning his work in the Lowcountry. He learned to systematically search environments, relying on his training to pinpoint the specific odors associated with active mold growth.
Upon finding a target, he performs a trained passive alert—a calm, deliberate sit. He is conditioned to ignore typical household distractions, from other pets and lingering food smells to daily family activity. For his safety and to maintain absolute focus, Cowboy works strictly on lead during every inspection.
When the work harness comes off, Cowboy knows it's time to go.
He loves car rides, enjoys meeting new people, and gets excited when he's headed to an inspection. Working gives him a job to do, and he genuinely enjoys it.
When he's off duty, Cowboy spends his time with his family, playing with his brothers Tyson and Arrow, going for walks, and doing all the normal dog things dogs love to do.
He may be a highly trained working dog, but at the end of the day, he's still part of the family.
Cowboy lives with two brothers - both family, both important to who he is.
The original. Older, calmer, the dog who's been through everything with us.

Beautiful, dramatic, and exactly as opinionated as you'd expect from a husky.

The only one with a job! He shows up every day ready to work.

A working dog with a good home life shows up to work differently than one without. Cowboy's job matters, but it's not all he is.
The command Cowboy responds to on every inspection is one word: Seek. When he hears it, he goes to work, methodically searching the spaces we point him toward.
When he detects mold-related odor, he sits - his trained passive alert. That's when we mark the area with blue painter's tape and explain what we found to the homeowner.

Jules is who you'll meet when Cowboy comes to your home. She's Cowboy's trained handler and the day-to-day operator of Cowboy K9 - bookings, communication, the visit itself, and the report. The calm and clarity the whole business is built around come from her.

Jeff is the founder of Cowboy K9 Mold Detection. He also runs real estate and mortgage businesses in the Lowcountry, which means he understands what's at stake when a mold concern shows up during a home transaction - and what it takes to give a homeowner a clear, calm, honest answer.
